When I was in K-II, our teacher announced that there will be a drawing contest and asked those who wanted to join to raise their hands. Kids naturally love to draw so more than half of the class raised their hands. I was one of them. Just so you know, I don't have a morsel of a talent for drawing but well, I didn't know that at that time. Then our teacher asked each of those who will join to stand up and tell the class what we want to draw. Most of the answers were princesses and castles, superheroes, cars, boats, houses, etc. When it was my turn, I don't know why but this was what was on my mind:
There are two friends who are picking mangoes, one is on top of the tree, the other one is under the tree to catch those that fall. Then the one on top asked the one under to throw him a stone because there's a fruit he can't reach. So the one under (which I imagined to be me) threw a stone to the one on top.
Take note ha, animated pa na! Haha...Our teacher was probably amused because after my turn she told the class to get our paper and pencil and draw the scene that I told in class. (Or probably she wants to find out if that's drawable.) Every time they're done drawing, my classmates would then ask me if it's it (mao ba daw ang ila gi-draw). And being the agreeable person that I ever was, I said yes to every drawing (bisan dili mao ako gi-imagine).
When my father got home from work in the evening, I told him I was joining the drawing contest. He asked me (again) what I was gonna draw. I told him, "There are two friends kneeling in the ground looking for sibog-sibog." (Sibog-sibog is a very small bug that makes holes in the ground for their shelter. It is called so , I think, because it moves backwards. We have to chant "siiiiiiiiiibog sibog siboggggg..." and blow on the hole for it to come out. Of course, it's coming out of the hole has probably nothing to do with our chanting.). This was probably because that afternoon my neighbor playmate and I went looking for sibog-sibog when I came home from school.
What actually came out of my drawing during contest time was something like this:
